RIMANENDO SUL CONFINE. OVVERO: LA VOLTA CHE RINCORSI IL FANTE DI CUORI (Living on the border. Chasing the Jack of Hearts)
Tales of mountain smugglers, while playing cards in a border inn, by and with Stefano Beghi.
A monologue set to music with brigands and customs officers playing a game of cards and drinking wine. Stefano Beghi tells the story of the contraband trade of the 1970s in an area of lakes and borders between Italy and Switzerland.
Told in fairy-tale style, the show deals with the rigid demands of the states and the needs of ordinary people, their dreams, the practical necessities and physical limitations. The conflict between these two dimensions gave rise to the contraband trade, born of the need for individual freedom, the sense of belonging and the right to survive in a territory that reaches beyond conditioned opinions and political definitions.
In the stories told by Stefano Beghi, the border between states is transformed into the border between the legal and the illegal, between poverty and dignity, between “just enough” and “more”. Why can’t we go beyond borders?
The performance will be followed by a debate with ex-customs officer Sergio Scipioni and the social historian from Trento University Casimira Grandi on labour mobility and the habit of crossing borders to satisfy primary human needs.
